According to a recent case study, acupuncture is proven effective in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Research found that receiving acupuncture treatment over the course of one month diminished the pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis. Plus, the benefits continued over a two-year period for those patients who received continuing treatment during this time. You can read more here.
In treating arthritis, I have found (through my own experience) that acupuncture is very effective and has helped many of my patients avoid impending surgery. If you are not sure whether or not you are suffering from arthritis, but you are experiencing pain, swelling and/or stiffness and you notice that your knee often pops and cracks, then you are probably experiencing some kind of osteoarthritis. I have noticed that the results are better when there is still some cartilage between the bones, but even if all the cartilage has gone, having some acupuncture will help to alleviate the pain.
If you know of anyone who is suffering from arthritis and is thinking of having surgery, I would suggest trying acupuncture first. I have a great deal of experience in treating all types of arthritis, and I am confident that I can reduce the pain and swelling associated with arthritis as well as minimizing the risk of surgery.
