Used by top sports-people to repair injury and increase their performance, but suitable for all; very gentle electrical stimulation is directed along the energy pathways of the body to promote healing and muscle relaxation. This modern acupuncture method, which is similar to TENS therapy, is particularly suitable for treating aches and pains in the joints and back.
How does it work?
Electrotherapy aims to stimulate the body’s healing processes by sending electrical impulses through the channels, muscles and nerves. Electrical stimulation is most commonly associated with pain management as it promotes the release of endogenous neurotransmitters such as beta-endorphin, a natural analgesic.
I often uses electro-acupuncture to alleviate the pain of her patients. The results are fantastic. When Iwas practising acupuncture on board, I particularly remembers a patient that came on the first day of his cruise to have a treatment as he was suffering from an intense hip pain that prevented him to walk without any support. He had almost canceled his cruise, but decided to come as he was cruising with his 7 children and their spouses and his 14 grand children. After the first treatment, he got off the treatment couch and was so impressed his pain had dramatically reduced. After the third treatment he did not need anymore support to help him to walk and managed to enjoyed his holidays pain free.
